Emma Duncan
Student Assistant
Emma comes to St. Andrew’s as a theology student currently enrolled part-time at Knox College, Toronto in her studies towards an M.Div degree and a call to Ordained Ministry within the Presbyterian Church in Canada. She has been appointed here as part of her Supervised Field Education to serve under the mentorship of our minister, Dr. McQuaig. She will be with us for the Fall 2011 and Winter 2012 semesters.
Emma is a graduate of the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Library Science degree. She is a Librarian and a Branch Manager with Brampton Public Library.
Emma was born in Brampton, Ontario where she still lives and works. She grew up in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Brampton where she met Richard Duncan, the minister’s son. They started dating while in the youth group and were married almost 14 years ago. Emma and Richard have 2 daughters. Richard is a fire fighter with the Toronto Fire Department.
Emma’s home congregation is St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Brampton where she is an Elder. She has been active in the Sunday School and various church committees and has also served as Representative Elder for the congregation in Brampton Presbytery and the courts of the Presbyterian Church in Canada.
Emma is looking forward to serving God with the people at St. Andrew’s Streetsville!
In her appointment to St. Andrew’s, Emma will meet weekly with Dr. McQuaig to learn about the daily functioning of a congregation and the role of ordained leadership. Emma will participate regularly in Sunday worship, conducting worship and preaching the sermon on at least four occasions during her tenure. She will work closely with Dr. McQuaig in the planning of Advent, leading to the celebration of Christmas. She will be involved with the Growth and Outreach team in planning and implementing a program of teaching and engagement of the congregation as we work through the results of the recent Natural Church Development survey. She will be involved in the House Church ministry, exploring the linkages between preaching, worship, and personal spiritual growth.
We welcome Emma to St. Andrew’s in partnership with us in ministry, trusting that God will enrich us all as we share in this adventure of faith and learning.
